I had tried a two week trial membership with Livebooks before finding this site, and found the experience very unpleasant due to the way they nickle and dime their customers for what should be basic features.
One feature that they offered that was very useful, however, was the ability to pair two vertical images side by side in the image manager. This made for a cleaner looking website, less wasted space, and smoother transitions between landscape and portrait oriented photographs.
I realize that this can be done in photoshop before uploading the images, however this is time consuming and does not allow you to easily make changes in which photographs you'd like to pair together.
I've uploaded a screenshot from my site to illustrate what I mean. This was done in photoshop before uploading, but I would love the ability to do this in the image manager.

I agree, updating my site every month or so requires at least an hour extra Photoshop work to acommodate this look... small considering the work I did on my site before I used viwebook but still a pain.
It could be so good !!!! Photoshelter is doing it yet ;)
I really would love to have that feature!!
Any chance of this making it into the upcoming redesign? I imagine there's a lot of work involved to make it happen - but it would really be an amazing feature.
Yes... I'd love to have this feature too. It would be great to be able to change side-by-side images within albums, instead of having to stick multiple photos together in Photoshop.
Well, thank you for such a great website!
Yes this is my main dilemma at the moment and very very time consuming. I would love to have a transition like this I kjnow is done in flash but the pairing is what I like.
Please check the site of my colleague and dear friend. great alignment for us portrait photographers

Agreed - this would be a fantastic feature! I am often pairing vertical images side by side, by nature I shoot more portrait orientation than landscape - plus it just makes a more pleasing navigation experience.
I'd love to have a feature like this too!! Would anyone of the Viewbook team be able to tell us if there is an outlook on such a great functionality? Thanks in advance!
Yes, this is needed. Not only for 2 pictures, but ever for 3 or more!
is there some news from Viewbook Team about this needed side by side idea ? It seems we're a group of users who need it...
Thank you for your good job btw ,)
awesome idea! Would love that.
I'm just going through a massive update of my website right now (way overdue due to how much work it is) - a LOT of my images are vertical and it's just such a waste of space to have to centre them only - I really, really, really hope you guys can add this feature soon! It would be great and save a LOT of time. Right now I need to do a website template layout in photoshop to achieve the same. Plus, when printed portfolios/magazines are laid out they are often paired verticals side by side, so I think the human eye likes viewing things this way!
I agree. I think that having two vertical images on one page would save a lot of space and be more visually pleasing. In fact, it would be cool to be able to match a horizontal and vertical image as well. I've done this in Photoshop and added it to my page:

It could save a lot of time if I could do this directly on the site.
Cheers!
This feature request should be in the Top10 planned feature list!
Do you guys have an idea what would be the best workflow / approach for this in Viewbook?
Happy to hear your ideas.

Keep the interface just the way it is, and add a button 'pair selected images'. Whether you select two, three, four or more images, you'll see them paired up in the final slideshow
(Don't know if this is the most practical approach from technical point of view, but it seems simple and good to me)
I think simple functionality is good. Images should be able to be uploaded in galleries as normal. Then simply have an option for "pair images" and be able to specify "Left" or "Right".
If this feature goes ahead, it would save me a HUGE amount of time and I think make my viewbook galleries much more versatile, functional and allow me to really make the most of them. For those of us who shoot vertically a lot, this would be a godsend!
I think the possibility to decide how much space I want between the 2 images is also a great feature. I like to see a separation, but sometimes I attached the 2 images with space in between.
I really hope that Pairing vertical images will be arrive soon! I'm wasting so much time now to do this in PS...
Thank you Rien. It will be awesome if a simple automatic feature would make it possible, thank you
I pair up horizontal and vertical together sometimes so I hope with this pairing up feature you can pair up both formats. I think having a few gapping options would be a great help for everyone.
I am so looking forward to this. I know this new feature will benefit a lot of Viewbook users.
Thank you so much guys.
Maybe it's an option to link pictures together like one does with layers in Photoshop if the need is there. These "linked pictures" (2 or more) are then displayed side by side in the slideshow. Their position in the album defines their order in the "link". A checkbox in the slideshow-panel to "show linked pictures side-by-side" could complete the feature with possibly an extra option for a margin to be chosen. Easy and simple, yet powerfull...
The same idea could be used to link pictures/albums/collections together that need the same styling-treatment...
Another possiblity is to create a "slide-show template-chooser". The "page" could stay the same, since the screen-size doesn't change. A few templates to choose from (e.g. with # columns) and a simple drag-and-drop functionality will do the trick. A template-creator may be a bridge too far, but I imagine this would help everybody to really personalize their slideshows.
Thank you for the great work. I finally found a service that really works for me...
Great idea! Is it in the making?
Our current idea is to automatically place vertical oriented images side by side on the album level, with a setting called 'pair vertical images'. We already have this working and it will probably be available in the next version of Viewbook (Viewbook V3).
this is awesome news, can't wait to get that feature :)
Please don't confine it to vertical images. I have a set of left-right pairs (that I print on 11x11 paper for books): some portrait, some landscape. I understand 2 landscapes would have to size down appropriately. Also, please allow for the title and descriptions to still display under each image.
So this idea is "planned", when exactly will this take place? Max Kelly suggested this in 2010, sorry if I sound pushy, but this feature would be awesome! Thank you.
