Introduction

The basic principle of websites in Viewbook
Before creating your first website it's good to understand the very basic principle of website creation with Viewbook:

  1. A website is a collection of Pages
  2. A navigation menu links those Pages together

A website is created by adding individual Pages to a 'Site' folder. By doing this the navigation menu is created automatically and the pages are linked together.

Presets
Pages in your website are created with a modular system, whereby each individual Page can have it's own format, styles and lay out. However within a website you want to have consistency of style and lay out between each individual Page. To make this easier you can save the styles and lay out of a Page to a custom 'Preset'. If you later create a new Page you can apply this Preset, so your new Page becomes exactly the same styles and layout.

Create a website

1. Create several Albums. First create several Albums. In the next steps you will use those Albums in your website. Not sure how to create albums read the albums tutorial here.

2. Make a new Website. Click the 'New' button in the toolbar, and choose 'Site'. To edit the name simply click on the name of the new created 'Untitled' website, enter the new name for your website and hit the Return key.

3. Choose a format. You can choose from one of the available formats. The 'Album' format displays an Album on your webpage. With the 'Collection' format you can create collections of Albums. And the 'Text' format is for creating text pages and video embedding.

4. Edit the menu name. The name of your Page is the same in the navigation menu. Click on the name of the new created 'Untitled' Page, enter the new name for your Page and hit the Return key.

5. Add your content. If you choose an Album or Collection format, the next step is to drag & drop your Albums on to your Page. Click any of your albums, hold down your mouse button and drag the album into your page. Repeat this for any album you want to add to your page. If you choose a Text format enter your Text.

6. Style your Page. Use any of the lay out and style options, add your logo, to make the Page your own. If you're ready save your Page as a Preset.

7. Add more Pages. Repeat the steps 2 to 5. Apply the saved Preset to your new Pages.

8. Reorder menu items. To reorder the Pages in your menu, click the page and just drag & drop the Page to the desired position.

Hi, I've gone through the tutorial and have some problems with applying the style album settings. I have dragged an album named 'logos' on a collection page and want to flick through all the different logos in the album.  Instead what's happening is only one logo is appearing. In the style album I created a navigation with numbers at the top. None of this appears. Can you pls let me know how i can have these working as per the example www.herenowcreative.com

Many thanks!

I'm currently on a trial account and seem to have reached a crossroads to continue designing my website.

A few things: I haven't seen an option for either website or collections. Can someone from VB explain how much formatting you can to on a trial account vs. a paid account? I'm not sure what more I can do on my trial account.

Typography... can I add a specific font onto my site if upgraded?

I'm keeping my site clean and simple, but still want to put design elements into it so it doesn't look so much like a template design.

Please help. I'm wanting to finish my site in a few days. I've all the photos put together just need to get more formatting completed.

Hi Amiee,

I just checked out your site and saw you've created pages and menu items, so it looks like you've figured out how to create the website by now. A thing I noticed is that you still have our logo in place, perhaps this is the easiest thing to change and give your site a more personal and unique look?

Please take a look at the following:

http://support.viewbook.com/entries/53664-how-do-i-add-a-logo-to-my...

There are no differences between the Pro trial and Pro account/subscription except for the amount of images you can upload for example but no design differences. It is not possible yet to add specific fonts at the moment. We're currently working hard to release Viewbook's next version - V3, where we will give you a lot more customization option, adding your own font is on of them, so I hope you can give us a little longer.

You could also consider creating a splash page to further characterize your site:

And another thing could be a background image:

I hope this helps! Otherwise, you can always send us a mail of course!
